Trieste is a city which manages to make its way on the tourist map of Italy despite the fact it is most often overshadowed by more resonant destinations, such as Venice or, why not, the beach resorts scattered on the Adriatic coastline of Italy: Caorle, Bibione, Lignano, Grado included. The proximity to the Slovenian border has left a mark on the cultural identity of Trieste, which exudes a composite dash materialized in virtually all the minute details of everyday life.

There are plenty of tourist sights to be visited in Trieste. The tourist patrimony of the city consists of archeological vestiges of which date bate to Antiquity and the early Christian period. Several places of worship, some civil architecture masterpieces, as well as the approximately 1,500 caves located in the Trieste plateau within the province of Trieste complement the range of tourist attractions in Trieste.

Briefly, must-visits refer to the vestiges of the Temples of Athens and Zeus, the remains of the Arch of Ricardo, of the Basilica Forense and of the early Christian Basilica. The vestiges of the Roman Theater should also be taken into consideration, along with certain places of worship, such as the Cathedral of Trieste (or the Cathedral of Saint Justus), the Synagogue of Trieste. The Miramare Castle and the San Giusto Castle are also noteworthy, but one should never forget to visit the central square of the city, namely, Piazza Unita d’Italia, the historical port of the city, the Civic Museum of Natural History of Trieste, or monuments like Risiera di San Sabba and Foiba di Barsovizza.

Nature attractions such as the caves on the Trieste plateau, the National Park of Val Rosandra and, why not, the Civic Botanical Garden and the University Botanical Garden of Trieste should undoubtedly be searched out.

Trieste, both the city and in particular the province, are great for bike tourism, as well as for rural tourism, with a solid cycle path infrastructure and plenty of rural accommodation solution.
